When I read the first Addison Holmes book, I was thrilled to see there were at least two more to keep me going. Then life intervened, time passed, and I didn't get a chance to read as much as I would like. I blinked, and there it was – an Addison Holmes box set! Party for me! The only problem was finding a chunk of time large enough to read the two books in the set that I hadn't read yet: Whiskey Sour and Whiskey for Breakfast. Why, you ask? Because I knew after reading the first book, Whiskey Rebellion, that I wouldn't be able to stop after book 2 – I'd read it all the way through book 3, bedamned the consequences 🙂
There's a hot cop, tons of sexual tension, three great mysteries, and a reasonable and steamy progression of the underlying romance between heroine and hero. Hart combines small town life with big city mysteries by creating a tiny suburban town outside of a larger urban center. In choosing Savannah as the city setting, Hart brings in some great historic settings, interesting southern royalty characters, and a good diversity of supporting cast members. In contrast, the small town life of Whiskey is charming, a hot-bed of gossip, and a reminder that we can't escape our past.
Addison is in many ways a typical girly girl. She loves her shoes, her underwear club, and her sweet ride. But thankfully, she's more than that. A bit clumsy, occassionally ditzy, and always good natured, Addison is most importantly self-aware. She knows that she's clumsy and is a walking disaster waiting to happen. And she even makes some small progress in changing herself for the better. Go Addison!
Bottom line: As long as you don't mind a little tasteful romance with your mystery, you really can't go wrong with this box set. Since I recommend all three books, puchasing them all at one time will save you time – because read one and you'll want to read the rest!
